Dear Diary’s mission is to keep Austin vibrate by facilitating activities that inspire friendships and cherished memories.

Dear Diary Coffee is a neighborhood coffee shop that is owned and operated by people that live nearby. The staff really values the local community and volunteerism.

A Space for Everything We Have in Common

Plant-Based (But Mostly Just Human)

Even though Dear Diary’s menu is entirely vegan, the majority of our community isn't. We love that. Our goal isn't to police anyone’s diet; it's just to make great coffee and great food that happens to be plant-based. Caring about animals is our way of contributing to the world, but we know it’s just one piece of the puzzle. Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something—whether you’re volunteering, creating art, or just being a kind neighbor. We’re all contributing to the common good in our own ways.

A Space to Just Exist

It’s incredibly important to us that every person who walks through our doors feels safe and welcome. Because we’re a creative space in Central Austin, we naturally attract a beautifully diverse, largely queer community. We’re proud of that. We want our shop to be a place of equity for marginalized folks, without alienating anyone else. At the end of the day, having common ground—like a shared love for art, music, or a really good oat milk latte—is what brings us all together.

Leaving the Noise Outside

The world is heavy right now. We intentionally built Dear Diary to be a sanctuary from the constant noise. Our art, gifts, and events are kept intentionally light, and we keep political and religious commentary off our walls. We all have deeply held beliefs, but we also need spaces where we can just decompress. It’s okay to take a break, sketch in your notebook, and just listen to the Legend of Zelda soundtrack.

Compelled by Creativity

Creative expression is a vulnerable thing. Whether it’s a song, a poem, a painting, or a bad joke, sharing a piece of your mind with the world takes guts. We know what it feels like to be driven by that creative itch, and we want to foster it. Dear Diary is a blank canvas for our community’s imagination, and we’re here to encourage whatever you’re working on.

No Corporate Walls

Why do we care so much? Because there is no corporate barrier between us and you. We live here, we work here, and we don't answer to a distant boardroom. Ultimately, our boss is you. Every cup of coffee you buy directly supports a barista who likely lives just down the street. There’s no passing the buck and no hiding behind a brand name. We’re entirely local, entirely accountable, and deeply proud to be a part of this community.

Craft, Community, and Conscious Decisions

Purpose in Every Pour

We believe that what you consume should taste incredible and mean something. That’s why we partner with independent bakers across Austin and San Antonio to bring you a fully plant-based menu (with plenty of thoughtful gluten-free options).

Our coffee program is built in collaboration with a boutique roaster in South Austin, sourcing beans exclusively from women-led farms and co-ops globally. We meticulously select roast profiles designed to satisfy the refined palate of a purist espresso drinker, while maintaining enough body and complexity to shine through a velvety, steamed oat milk latte.

Cultivating the Local Underground

Austin’s creative soul thrives on collaboration, and we want to be the canvas for it. Through our art consignment program, regular artist pop-ups, and casual creative meetups, we aim to give local makers a platform to share their vision.

We have immense respect for the independent organizers who dedicate their time to building free, public community events. To support that hustle, we offer our space and marketing reach to help those gatherings thrive. Whether you're here to show your work or find your people, there’s a seat at the table for you.

Absorbing the Cost of Care

As conscious consumers, our choices carry weight. For us, an entirely vegan menu isn't a trend; it's a baseline of empathy. We don’t think choosing the kinder option should feel like a luxury or a compromise.

To make a plant-based lifestyle genuinely accessible, we absorb the extra cost of alternative milks. No vegan tax, no upcharges—just exceptional coffee made thoughtfully, for everyone.
