General Privacy Policy
Dear Diary LLC and Amalia Foods DBA respect your privacy.
Non-transactional emails such as marketing announcements and newsletters are sent infrequently. We do not want to flood your inbox. We always email people via services that allow them to unsubscribe (such as Mailchimp or Google Groups).
Transactional emails such as customer support communications and receipts are only sent as needed.
We NEVER sell customer information to anyone. We don’t even know how to do that.
We do not have advertising cookies on our website. We’ve enabled a cookie banner that allows you to turn of web analytics (the only non-necessary cookie we have). Cookies that are needed to make the website work are always on (like shopping cart, for example).
If you believe you are receiving communications by mistake, please contact us to let us know, and we will do our best to resolve the issue for you.
Return Policy for Dear Diary LLC
Dear Diary Coffee is a brick-and-mortar coffee shop located in Austin, Texas. We take food safety very seriously and throw away foods well before their expiration dates.
We are able to offer a fully vegan menu at non-vegan prices because our customers do not ask us to absorb the cost of mistakes that are not our fault.
If you don’t really like the food or drink that you ordered, we hope you’ll try something else on the menu next time. We’re always happy to give recommendations before you purchase. We’re happy to pour you a little sip of plant milk, cold brew, drip, or batch-made tea to help you decide. We don’t give samples of things that require to-order preparation though (like espresso) or food items.
If you drop or damage your food or drink while in our shop, let us know and we’ll clean up the mess for you. If you’ve already left, there’s not much we can do for you. You can, of course, purchase a replacement if you want to.
If you (or your child or your dog) damage an item, you must take responsibility for the cost and pay for those goods.
We are committed to serving you our best, however, and will always find a way to correct our mistakes. In fact, we really appreciate it when customers make us aware of mistakes in person so we can make it right.
If we served you the wrong thing in error, please let us know right away so we can remake the food or drink for you! For example, if you asked for almond milk, but we accidentally used oat milk, please allow us to remake the drink for you before you leave the shop.
We do not issue refunds for retail items.
Consignment items are non-refundable because we give the money to the artists. It would be a logistical nightmare to ask the artists to refund us when we refund you.
Art supplies are non-refundable once you leave the store because it is very hard for us to verify that an art supply has not been used. We want to preserve our inventory and ensure that everyone is taking home high quality products. That means you may not test art supplies before buying them. If you end up buying a dry pen, we’ll let you swap it for a juicy one if you bring it to our attention the same day.
Return Policy for Amalia Foods DBA
Amalia Foods is a cottage food business that sells syrups, baked goods, and other permissible items at farmers markets, bake sales, food festivals, and other direct-to-consumer opportunities. We practice food safety in creating food products and dispose of them well before they expire.
If an Amalia Foods item is defective, please let us know right away (before you leave). If we determine that the defect is indeed our fault, we will offer you an exchange or refund at our discretion.
If you do not really like the product you bought, we hope you’ll buy something you like more next time.
If you break or damage the product you bought, there’s not much we can do for you. It’s a bummer, but we never have enough inventory to absorb the cost of customer mistakes.
If your product is broken in shipping, let us know so we can work with the shipping service to get you a refund. We don’t generally ship stuff, but when we do, we use services that insure the products shipped.
Terms of Use for Dear Diary LLC
Dear Diary Coffee is a brick-and-mortar coffee shop in Austin, Texas. We are a retail business that relies on our patrons to pay our staff fairly and keep the lights on. We do not receive any kind of government funding, and therefore cannot shoulder the cost of providing free amenities to the public. We respectfully ask that folks help us help them.
Restrooms are for paying customers only. We provide restrooms for the comfort of our coffee shop patrons and staff. There are gas stations and a public library within walking distance of our shop that provides public toilets for free. Of course, we make an exception for certain disabled individuals in our community.
Seating is for paying customers only. This is actually a security measure. We have to maintain a strict no-loitering policy to shield our patrons from harassment and our artists from theft. Paying customers are welcome to use our seating for as long as they’d like. Folks with no intention of purchasing anything are kindly and quietly asked to leave.
Pets are not allowed in the shop. Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 437 generally forbids pets, including emotional support animals from being inside of food service establishments. We really appreciate pet owners that help us comply with the law.
We maintain quiet enjoyment. Dear Diary Coffee is able to provide customers with a safe, reasonably quiet environment thanks to the cooperation of everyone that hangs out at our shop. Please let us know if someone is making you feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Invading personal space, soliciting, cursing, and other unruly behavior is not tolerated at Dear Diary Coffee.
