Secret Show 2025

6pm Friday, October 24th

I arrive at the park like the flyer told me to. Other people with flyers are showing up too. …Isn’t there supposed to be music? Where’s the stage?

A few yards away, someone wearing a headlamp is playing their acoustic guitar and singing something about dancing in their kitchen. This is so weird.

“There’s another musician with a headlamp that way. We’re supposed to follow them,” a stranger tells me.

From the bridge, I can see headlamps lighting a paved trail headed north. I descend the ramp to get to the next one.

I guess this is the concert?

The flyer has a lot of band names on it. I guess they are all singer/songwriters?

Some people have stopped to listen to one of the headlamp musicians. I join them. They have a really nice voice.

It’s twilight now. I feel like I’m a traveler on a pilgrimage. I follow the other travelers down a dirt trail now, into the woods.

This is interesting.

I can hear amplified music now. I get chills. Oh, so there is a stage?

We pass through the trees, and then all of the sudden the trees clear and we are washed in a bath of sound…
